اندامی حیاتی در دوران بارداری است که بین جنین و دیواره رحم مادر قرار دارد. جفت نقش‌های مختلفی در تأمین بقا و رشد جنین ایفا می‌کند. در زیر به برخی از ویژگی‌ها و عملکردهای جفت می‌پردازیم:

FA is the most common inherited bone marrow disorder. The ensuing hematological problems are by far the most serious  clinical implications of FA. At birth, the blood count is usually normal, followed initially by macrocytosis. Often, the patient  presents with pallor and recurrent infections, at which point hematological findings usually include thrombocytopenia and  neutropenia, leading later on to pancytopenia
