دانشمندان در انگلستان بعد از پنجاه سال تحقیق، گروه خونی جدیدی کشف کردند.

دکتر، تیلی –Tilley–، هماتولوژیست در سرویس سلامت ملی بریتانیا-NHS- که نزدیک به ۲۰ سال روی این موضوع تحقیق کرده است، می‌گوید: (این کشف، دستاوردی بزرگ است و نتیجه تلاش تیمی طولانی‌مدت برای شناسایی این سیستم جدید گروه خونی بود که باعث ارائه مراقبت‌های بهتر به بیمارانی می‌شود که این گروه خونی نادر را دارند).

بدن انسان دارای سیستم‌های مختلفی از گروه‌های خونی است که بر اساس تنوع پروتئین‌ها و قندهای سطح سلول‌ها طبقه‌بندی می‌شوند. اگر این نشانگر‌ها در زمان دریافت خون باهم مطابقت نداشته باشند، انتقال خون می‌تواند باعث واکنش‌های خطرناک یا حتی مرگبار شود. این موضوع در مورد گروه خونی جدید هم صدق می‌کند. این یافته ها امکان شناسایی و درمان بیماران نادری را که فاقد این گروه خونی هستند، میسر می‌سازد. این تحقیق در مجله Blood منتشر شده است.
